John H. Walker was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where he lived his pre-teenage years. Subsequently, John immigrated with his family to Toronto, Ontario, Canada. John is married to Jane who is a school vice-principal. They are the parents of five (5) children and are long time residents of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Employment

Presently, founder and president of Hill Walker Inc., Project Management Consultants, a project services company.

Alberta Public Works, Supply and Services, Edmonton: Director of Specifications and Standards for 18 years. This was senior management position with corporate, program and project level responsibilities. Functionally responsible for procurement planning, contract development, specifications and standards with respect to four capital programs: health facilities, civil works, capital projects and accommodation. Developed and managed a branch having a staff ranging from 16 to 24 people.

Federal Department of Public Works, Ottawa: Senior Specification Writer, Specifications Division, for three(3) years. Responsible for a wide range of specification and contract functions related to DPW operations in Ottawa and across Canada. Principal participant in the development and implementation of the Canadian National Master Construction Specification System (NMS).

Boigon and Armstrong Architects and Planners, Toronto, Ontario. Spent 12 years with this medium sized architectural practice and participated in all aspects of practice and project work which included a wide range of public and private sector facilities. Was a senior member of the firm with functional responsibility for building science, specifications, contracts, and procurement.

    • Extensive involvement with the construction industry and corporate levels on policy and practice issues.

    • Participation in numerous special projects and task forces at the industry an corporate levels.
    • Technical expertise grounded in the project management, architectural, engineering, specifications and cost engineering disciplines.
